Trip to Guatemala

One month in Guatemala

Time to get out my backpack and go on a trip to Guatemala.

After a beautiful wedding season, intense, rich in encounters, I decide to take out my “backpack” with a destination that was unknown to me: Guatemala.

This one-month trip is different from the previous ones. Even though I call my traveling friends, I didn’t really have any travel tips about this country. So, this trip to Guatemala will be a total discovery. And it was so amazing.
Incredible colors everywhere. On the buses, on the clothes, on the walls of all the houses… An extremely bright and warm luminosity.
I really loved the street atmosphere and the kindness of the Guatemalans.

Meeting the inhabitants

A lot of smiles and exchanges make it possible to take pictures that many people refuse at first sight, by covering their faces with their hands in front of the few cameras “pointed” at them. It is good to remember that respect for others and communication (verbal and non-verbal) can open doors to many shots that could be moved. A smile, a few words, a positive gesture, it changes everything…

A country with a lot of diversity

This small country is rich in diversity. From the Pacific coast of black sand to the jungle of Mayan temples, from the Caribbean coast populated by Garifunas, from the mountains to Lake Atitlán lined with volcanoes, you are drawn into a loop of scents, colours and flavours…

In my eyes, the richness is definitely in the exchange and discovery.
Knowing how to get out of the comfort zone also means getting to know oneself and changing one’s view of the world.

The new wedding season can start!

Trip to Guatemala by Sylvain Bouzat, photographer

As a travel lover, I try to be close to the people of the country I’m travelling through. For this I try to move around and try to live like the locals. Naturally, my photography practice is oriented towards street atmospheres (street photography) and portraits.
Since then, my work has evolved a lot and I now only photograph with an old medium format film camera and 120 film. From these travels (Burma, Laos, Oman, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Guatemala, Albania, Morocco, India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Nepal,…), I create images that are then presented in photo exhibitions.

I invite you to contact me if you wish to discover my work for Fine Art prints.
