Wedding in Montenvers

A wedding at the Refuge de Montenvers in Chamonix

Nicolas, the child of the Chamonix valley

The sun is bright and the Pics des Drus are shining.
Nicolas and his family warmly welcomed me in their chalet for a typical breakfast with the parents of Rachael, originally from Wales.
Without stress, with a lot of humour and simplicity, Rachael and Nicolas invited me into their wedding with incredible energy and lots of surprises.

The bride and groom on the Montenvers train

After the ceremony at the Chapelle des Praz, the groom’s aunt took us to an unusual place for couple photos: the old Montenvers train station. We had the immense privilege of being able to take beautiful pictures in the period carriages of the Chamonix valley. Soft images, simple but full of poetry in the image of the couple.

The Refuge de Montenvers, facing the Mer de Glace

It is finally a more modern train which will take all the guests through the mountains to the Refuge de Montenvers, facing the Mer de Glace. Unfortunately the weather will remain overcast and rainy in altitude. This will not prevent Rachael and Nicolas from taking their relatives for a cocktail and an evening full of speeches, emotions and no dancing…

The (little!) word of the bride and groom…

When we choose the photographer for our wedding, we choose the memories that we will share with our loved ones in 10, 20, 30 or 50 years. Based on this principle, we have searched trough internet to find a style, a look that speaks to us and that corresponds to us and, after much research, we fell under the spell of Sylvain’s pictures. After a few exchanges of emails, phone conversations and Skype conversations, our expectations were confirmed, as Sylvain is not only an artist but also a very nice person, and we did not hesitate for a long time to entrust him with the pictures of our wedding.

During the preparation of the big day, we shared with Sylvain our different ideas about the day’s progress, the planning, and he gave us very good advice to make the day go as smoothly as possible.

On the wedding day, Sylvain was simply perfect.

Present from the beginning of the day, he immediately put us at ease, gave us confidence, and gave wise advice throughout the day which reassured us a lot. He knew how to build his shots without ever imposing himself, disappearing while he was there, in order to render all the emotion of the moments and to keep the naturalness of the present moment. We also had the chance to do a slightly more intimate session in old Montenvers train station carriages, during which we got caught up in the game and were seduced by the “magazine models” side of things!

As for the evening, it was only by looking at the pictures that I realized that he was present at every moment, nothing escaped his photosensitive eye!

At the end of the wedding, it only took him a few days to put the pictures online, and a few more to receive the DVD of all the pictures : fast and efficient. And without surprise, all our relatives congratulated the photos: absolutely splendid.

Looking at the photos, it was like plunging back into this fantastic day, all the emotions were there, the laughter, the tears, the family, the friends, the smiles, the looks and also all those moments we didn’t see, absorbed by this day that passes at 100km/h.

Even if today the memories are still fresh, I know that tomorrow they will be a little less so, but we will just have to go back to those clichés to feel all the emotions of this very special day, which we shared with our families, our friends… and Sylvain of course!
